Jerry Smith (no ISO/TC 184/SC 4 connection in this matter) informed about the recognized need to standardize symbology, referring to US Military standard 2525.
Proposal that a National Body to call for a IWA.
Consensus in JSG that something needs to be done.
Interested organizations would be OGC, NIMA, NATO, IHO, ISO/TC 211, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24.
JSG wants to be kept updated on what's being done.

JTC 1/SC 24 confirmed that the Environmental Data Coding Specification (EDCS)(ISO/IEC 18025) is a candidate for the proposed authoritative referencing scheme. The EDCS is currently at the Committee Draft stage, with the disposition of comments due in July. Further information on the EDCS is available from the SEDRIS home page (www.sedris.org).

ISO/TC 211 encourage nomination of experts to their work items through members bodies and liaison organizations.
Nomination of liaison representatives important to be able to monitor work it the other organizations.
Possible opportunities: May 2003 in Geneva, March 2003 in Stuttgart (date later decided to 2003-02-17/21).
